On
August 14th 2010, a group of seven youth including myself flew to
Winnipeg, Manitoba on a mission trip for a week. Mainly we knew that we were
working with the inner city mission, kids and the elders.
We
went to Anishinabe Place of Hope. When we were there, we helped serve dinner.
We also met Tiffany, a very cool kid.
We
also went to Flora House later in the week and helped out with their summer
program. The kids were very welcoming to us. There were three sets of twins
there and even some of the kids had a case of “BIEBER FEVER” just like me, so
we fit right in.
Just
before that we picked and hung herbs with elders Audrey and Stella. We also
painted the kitchen they are building. I was glad that we were there when Rev.
Margaret got her prayer stick and John got his spirit name, “White Wolf.”
We hung out with Vivian for a day and
went to Siloam Mission and the Forks. At Siloam Mission we took a tour of the
building. It was cool to have Vivian there with us to share some of her stories
on the tour. It was sad to hear that they have to turn some people away at
night because it’s full, but besides that it was a good tour. When we went to
Forks we walked around for a bit. When we were there a concert was going on in
tribute for all the women who have been murdered or are still missing. We met a
dancer named Lawrence. Vivian knew him so she brought him over and we met him.
It was cool.
On
Saturday we went to the beach. It was a beautiful day to go the beach. It was
nice to have a day of fun even though everyday was fun.
So
it was a very good trip. We had lots of fun together and meeting new people. I
know I will miss the elders and the kids and everyone else we met but I will most
definitely miss the crew.
