Fest on Main, Market opens June 21
Topic: - downtown bia

 GT BIA press release

You’re invited to “Come Mill Around Main” on Saturday, June 21 when Downtown Georgetown celebrates summer by welcoming the weekly Farmers Market and the Festival on Main.  After a long, cold and snowy winter, welcome back for your fresh Ontario Grown Produce!  The Downtown Georgetown Farmers’ Market opens at 8 am each Saturday morning until October 11.  The market closes at 12:30, but by then the Festival on Main will be in full swing!

There will be music all day!  Beginning with the Rukanas Peruvian Band at 8 am, who will be joined at 11 am by Sandy’s Stompers.  As the day unfolds Tribal Thunder will perform, back by popular demand.  Tribal Thunder not only performs, but will teach children (of all ages) how to drum.  Do you love Peanut Butter, do you love Jam?  If so, be sure to learn drumming while chanting your love for Peanut Butter and Jam!

Downtown Georgetown’s unique Alleyways will be the location of other bands throughout the day, including:  George Grossman’s Bohemian Swing, the Ensemble Kids (a musical theatre performance), Random Roads, Second Wind, the Lorne Scots Association Band and Ablett & Cooper.  Joining all of the music will be facepainters, the Georgetown Unicycle Club, a dunk tank, a train and children’s entertainers such as clowns, jugglers and magicians.  There is a whole day of fun and excitement in store for you!

But this is not all!  Many of the Downtown Georgetown Businesses will be joining in the celebration with food sampling, sidewalk sales, and even a large blow-up bipper!  There will craft, artist, artisan and community booths for you to browse through.

Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 am to 6 pm (and until 12:30 pm throughout the Farmers’ Market season).

Heat wave!
Topic: - heat wave, june 7

Just when it felt like May would never warm up, along comes June and we have to dig out the air conditioner, fast!

Temps Friday and Saturday did a Brill bend over 30. Thunderstorms forecast for  Sunday and Monday. Not good of course for ball games.

However it was hot enough to allow us to really appreciate our unheated pool, which nudged the merc at almost 74 degrees today.

Even the little guy went in the pool gladly.

Enjoy this cute little pool video

Visions Canada Awards 08

It was our privilege to attend the Visions Canada Awards, held at the Halton Regional Museum on June 2/08.

These awards are a collaboration between the Halton District and Halton Catholic District School Boards, recognizing outstanding representations of Canada from Kindergarten through to Grade 12.

One of our daughters came home surprised recently to find herself a recipient. Her History teacher at Stewartown Middle School had entered her without her knowing.

Stewarttown also came up a winner with a Grade 7 group entry.

It was a very classy affair for the kids, complete with music following by an ensemble of the Halton Youth Orchestra, and pie!

Well done all!

Community day at Willow Park
Topic: - willow park, may

Mother Nature provided the picture perfect day for the latest community help day at Willow Park Ecology Centre in Norval.

Among the helpers were these young folk (and young at heart).

A great opportunity to think globally, act locally!

Sing sing sing
Topic: - gdhs spring concert

Tons of talent at the GDHS Spring Concert.

Hard to choose a feature song.

But I usually trust the song that sticks in my ear for a few days.

This year for me it was Sr. Jazz's 'Sing sing sing.'

Well done all!

Bangorama 08
Topic: - bangorama 08

Mother Nature relented on Saturday, and rain clouds gave way to sunny skies for Bangorama -- not necessarily a common occurance for this event.

The fam came back with quite a few good pics.

Click here for a sampling from our online photo album.

Below for a classic midway clip.

Merry go round

Stewarttown Spring Concert
Topic: - SMS spring concert

Just when you think you've seen it all...

The creative powers at Stewarttown MS came up with this memorable rendition of the old classic, Yellow Submarine.

To be sure, the event feature much talent and many fine performances.

However I think you'll agree this featured number possesses a certain something that causes it to stick in the mind.

Bravo Stewarttown!

20-Minute Makeover
Topic: - 20 min makeover

Group shot of youth group from Knox PC piling up cleanup efforts from 20-minute makeover on Apr. 18.

After being plied with food, this bunch  cheerfully rolled sleeves up for part of a glorious spring evening and gave mother earth and the GT downtown a much needed and appreciated spring cleaning.

Garden pic (Spring is finally here!)

Photographic evidence that spring is here --

resident garden gnome helping (!) to put on some mulch.

Oh well, his intentions are so pure he can easily be forgiven for deficiency in technique!

GDHS Sr. Jazz at Halton Showcase
Topic: - halton showcase

Stan took this video of our own top notch Sr Jazz band at Halton Showcase at Hamilton Place on Apr. 16.

Even the resident band member was pleased with how this piece, Trofeo de bolos, came off.

Judge for yourself!
